Lenin's Mausoleum
Grotesque it may be, but few visitors to Moscow can resist a peek at pickled remains of the father of Soviet Russia. The Lenin Mausoleum sits beneath the Kremlin's towers on Red Square.

Moscow State University
Housed in one of the city's seven enormous gothic skyscrapers commissioned by Stalin in the 1950s, the university is the great seat of learning of some of Russia's most famous scholars and political figures, including the former President Mikhail Gorbachev.

The Lubyanka
No visit to Moscow would be complete without a quick visit to what was, for much of the 20th century, the most notorious building in the world.

Moscow Zoo
The Moscow Zoo is one of the largest in the world. The oldest zoo in Russia, established in 1864, passed a long way from a small zoological garden to the large scientific, educational and conservation institution. The Moscow Zoological garden was founded by the All-Russia Emperor Society for Acclimatization of Plants and Animals.

The GUM
Just in front of the Kremlin walls, there is a long building of GUM. Gum is a short for a State Department Store. Actually built as a store in 1893 this building was called Upper Trade Rows. It was the biggest store in Russia before the revolution, and the most popular after.

Circus on Sparrow Hills
This new-ish circus has five interchangeable arenas. The acts change constantly, and guarantee a great spectacle for very little money.

Tsvetnoi Bulvar Circus
The "old" circus is the smaller of the two, and produces fabulous shows that usually have a central theme. The show includes a variety of acts, from clowns to acrobats. The intricate costumes and colorful acts are second to none.
